My husband and I love trail mix. It’s the best savory and sweet snack. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be “happy trails to you…” if my children were to get it. Nuts are some of their worst anaphylaxis allergies.

I just figured my boys would never experience trail mix due to their nut allergies. Until, I saw an Enjoy Life package at the FARE food allergy conference. What can I say, I’m a sucker for free samples!
Unfortunately, I have yet to find them in any store near me. I could order them online, but the cheapskate in me thought, “I could make this!”.
So, I have.
Both kiddos love this. I like it because it’s filling, and it’s easy to take on the go in little ziplock baggies, or small Tupperware containers. I make a big batch of it and put it in an air tight container, and leave it on their “safe snacks shelf” for whenever we need a simple, already-made snack.
I hope that you are also able to enjoy this Nut Free Trail Mix.
Nut Free Trail Mix (Gluten & Dairy free; Top 8 Free Too!)
Ingredients
- 2 cups sunflower seeds
- 2 cups pumpkin seeds (also known as pepitas)
- 1 cup raisins
- 3/4 cup Enjoy Life Dairy Free mini Chocolate Chips
Instructions
Toss all ingredients, and store in an air-tight container.
Notes
I get my seed and raisin ingredients from the bulk sections at Winco. They are great at labeling for"may contain" statements and have excellent prices. If you don't feel comfortable buying in bulk (totally get it) then you can find easy substitutions online.
Also, you can adjust the amounts, or add in other dehydrated fruits. Â Dried apricots, apples or cranberries would also be delicious. Â My boys are constantly eating fruit, so I tried to go light on the fruit in this recipe.
Unlike the traditional trail mix, where the chocolate has a hard candy shell, these chocolate chips will melt, if you take them with you where it's hot. We found this out the hard way and had lots of messy hands. So eat at room temperature.
